Okay, are you craving an absolutely amazingly moist and delicious cake? When are we not!?!? This Easy Apple Cake Recipe is everything. So much flavor, great texture and sweet vanilla cream cheese frosting. Oh, did I mention that it is super duper easy to make? Yeah!
My favorite cookbook, Eet Smakelijk, includes a recipe for Apple Pudding Cake. I switched up that recipe a bit to make this delectable dessert that is perfect for parties, potlucks and holidays.
The secret to this simple cake is Apple Pie Filling and my favorite Rodelle Pure Vanilla Extract in the cake and Rodelle Vanilla Bean Paste in the frosting.
A few basic ingredients mixed up in one bowl and baked in a 9×13 pan. Slather on that cream cheese icing and you are good to go!
The texture and flavor reminds me of carrot cake, which also happens to be one of my ultimate faves. But this cake is way easier to make than carrot cake.
OhLaLa. . . just look at that lusciuos frosting on top of perfectly moist cake. It don’t get much better!

Easy Apple Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting
Ingredients
Cake
- 1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter - softened
- 2 Cups Sugar
- Apple Pie Filling, 21 ounce can
- 2 Large Eggs
- 1/2 Cup Chopped Walnuts
- 1 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
- 2 Cups All Purpose Flour
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
Frosting
- 1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter - softened
- 8 ounces Cream Cheese - softened
- 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Bean Paste
- Small Pinch Salt
- 2 Cups Powdered Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Whole milk
Instructions
Cake
- Preheat oven to 325°F
- Mix butter and sugar. Add apple pie filling, eggs, walnuts and vanilla. Mix.
- Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Mix until just combined.
- Transfer to a buttered 9x13 baking dish.
- Bake for 47-48 minutes or until cooked through.
- Let cool before frosting.
Frosting
- Mix butter, cream cheese, vanilla bean paste and salt.
- Gradually mix in powdered sugar. Then add milk.
- Beat until light and fluffy. (2-3 minutes)
- Spread frosting evenly over cooled cake.
- Refrigerate cake until serving.

Hello! I went ahead & used vanilla! I also made a crumb topping instead of the icing & used my own homemade apple 🍏 pie 🥧 filling! Husband who doesn’t like sweets Except for my homemade brownies says it is SO awesome! Thanks for this recipe ever though I did it my way! I really couldn’t find many good recipes for this kind of cake! I chose to use yours for a foundation! Thanks ever so much!
